ถูกรีดิวซ์เป็นสารตัวกลางที่ทำลาย DNA/ribosome ของแบคทีเรีย ขับออกทางปัสสาวะในรูป active สูง จึงใช้รักษาการติดเชื้อทางเดินปัสสาวะส่วนล่างโดยเฉพาะ

การติดเชื้อทางเดินปัสสาวะส่วนล่าง (lower UTI) รวม MDR E. coli/Enterococcus — ใช้เฉพาะกระเพาะปัสสาวะ ไม่ครอบคลุมการติดเชื้อไต/ระบบ^{[2] [3]}

โรคไตบกพร่อง (ยาไม่ถึง MIC ในปัสสาวะ + สะสมพิษ); ห้ามใช้รักษา pyelonephritis/การติดเชื้อในกระแสเลือด^{[2] [3]}
